NCTU-TSMC Joint Research Center was founded.

Under the efforts of then-President Yen-Hwa Wu of National Chiao Tung University and Chief Technology Officer Jack Sun of TSMC, the "NCTU-TSMC Joint Research Center" was established on May 20, 2013, following the signing of a collaborative agreement and a grand opening ceremony.
The center was subsequently founded with Professor Edward-Yi Chang as the Director, TSMC's Deputy Director General Pan Zheng-Sheng as the Vice Director, and Professor Chien Chao-Hsin as the Executive Director.

Beginning of the "International Center of Excellence for Advanced Heterogeneous Integration for Green Electronics Research" Research Program

The research project of the "International Center of Excellence for Advanced Heterogeneous Integration for Green Electronics Research" established by National Chiao Tung University and the University of California, Berkeley (UCB) with support from the National Science Council, is being integrated into the center. The aim is to achieve synergies with TSMC's technological roadmap.

Mr. Derek Lin took over Vice Director after Dr. Samuel Pan’s retirement.

Beginning of the “Center for Semiconductor Technology Research” Research Program

The research topics are divided into five major topics: monolithic stacked devices and circuits, negative capacitance transistor technology, two-dimensional semiconductor devices, and materials, low-impedance interconnect and contact resistance technology and III-V-based transistor technology for high-speed and high-frequency applications.

TSMC offered Semiconductor Programs.

To enhance the quality of semiconductor talent and attract more high-caliber individuals to contribute to Taiwan's semiconductor industry, TSMC collaborates with top domestic universities to design semiconductor programs. Together, they define the professional competencies and corresponding course blueprints required for advanced processes, circuit design, and smart manufacturing in the semiconductor field. This initiative guides students in their learning and preparation, establishing a solid theoretical foundation.

TSMC offered Ph.D. Scholarships.

To drive the overall quality of talent and research capabilities in Taiwan's semiconductor industry and continuously promote the development of advanced technologies, TSMC has established this scholarship. It encourages outstanding students to pursue doctoral degrees in semiconductor-related fields and collaborates with university professors to create a top-tier industry-academic cooperative environment.

Start the “ACE Technology for Future Society 2025-2035” Research Program.

This five-year integrated plan is focused on addressing the future demands (2025-2035) for sustainable societal development, economic growth, and the anticipated industry opportunities and technological bottlenecks. It aims to develop, verify, and establish crucial, forward-looking, and groundbreaking semiconductor components and associated fundamental design technologies and intellectual properties. Simultaneously, it seeks to cultivate high-level technical expertise and engineering talent required by the domestic semiconductor-related industries. The targeted outcome and industry contributions are slated for commercialization and initial production within a few years after the plan's conclusion (2028-2030).

NYCU-TSMC Joint Research Center was founded through the merger of two universities: National Yang-Ming University and National Chiao Tung University.

In accordance with the "Regulations for the Establishment and Management of Research Centers at Yang Ming Chiao Tung University," and approved during the 1st Academic Affairs Meeting of the 2022 academic year on December 21, by National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University.
